Seminars:
You are invited ...

...to join us for the second series of seminars we are running at our Lancashire office. We were delighted by the response to the first series and would like to thank everyone who attended, including our guest speakers who made an outstanding contribution.

We were especially pleased by the ideas you fed back to us for future seminars; indeed we have incorporated some of them into this current series of seminars. We have also continued the format of inviting guest speakers to look at the subjects from a different perspective and hope that we will achieve our aim of assisting you to maximise the potential of your business.

There will be extended details about the subjects being covered in these seminars on our website at www.cassons.co.uk.

Please come early as breakfasts are provided by Cinzia and Maurizio Bocchi who run the award winning La Locanda restaurant in Gisburn. We hope that you enjoy their taste of Italy for breakfast!

Cassons Update
We will briefly review any new developments likely to have an impact on you or your business.

Inheritance tax
IHT is now highly likely to affect you and your family, partly as a consequence of massively increased property values. There are ways to reduce this additional tax burden, but many popular and effective methods have been blocked – some retrospectively. Colin and Paul will explain the main reliefs and a range of IHT saving techniques, including:

  • how easy is it to reduce your IHT bill by £120,000
  • how to extinguish your IHT bill completely within only 2 years, and
  • how to give assets away, still enjoy the benefits, and yet reduce your IHT immediately
  • Wills: why must you have one?
A will is the cornerstone for inheritance tax and wealth planning. It will help you to minimise your potential IHT liability and, perhaps more crucially, ensure your assets pass to your chosen beneficiaries at the appropriate time. Graham will clarify the more practical points the will should cover and in light of recent legal developments, he will explain why existing wills should be reviewed. Graham will also explain the new rules covering powers of attorney

    Wealth management
Steven Greenwood will illustrate our unique approach to managing wealth and how inheritance tax planning is an integral and continuous part of this overall process.

Why do business people ignore succession planning?
This vital subject demands your attention. And the time for planning is now!

    Succession planning
Who will take over from you, and how will you make it happen? How will you get paid out? Ashley and Lesley will consider: putting the right structures in place, developing or acquiring management, planning the exit, partnerships and quasi-partnerships, MBOs, MBIs and BIMBOs, issues in family businesses, managing expectations, funding, taxation, and deal structures. They will also look at alternative solutions, such as private equity or a trade sale.

    Developing your workforce for succession
The decision who takes over the reins and when involves careful analysis of the role and the individual. Whether your successor is a family member or other valued employee, Paul Robertson will advise how to recruit and retain the key people and how to develop their skills for when the time comes to take that step up. He will also highlight some potential employment law issues to consider when succession planning.
