Why should I join Cassons?
We’re a thriving, professional firm, constantly growing and developing the range of services we can offer to our clients. We are business advisors in the truest sense and work in partnership with our clients to help them to grow their businesses and their personal finances.
A firm of our size can offer a range and depth of new experiences. We believe that the more you know, the better the advice you’ll give. At Cassons we recognise the contributions that all staff can make to the business, it’s a good place to be and a good team to be part of.
What kind of support roles do you have at Cassons?
We have roles in the following support areas:
Are you looking for specific qualifications?
It will depend on the kind of role you’re applying for. A business administration or secretarial qualification may be useful for admin/secretarial roles. It will also be helpful to have GCSE or O’Level qualifications in English and maths.
In specialist areas such as HR, Marketing and IT we would expect you to have the relevant professional qualifications (with membership to institute if appropriate) and a good standard of general education.
We can supply you with person specifications for any vacancies we advertise.
What IT skills should I have?
As with most employers, familiarity with Microsoft packages would be useful, specifically Word, Excel and in some positions, PowerPoint. If there are industry specific packages that would help you perform your role, we are happy to offer training to the right candidates. Obviously, it’s a slightly different case for IT and more information will be made available to you when you apply.
I haven’t worked in accountancy before, is that a problem?
It may be useful to have worked in a similar environment but it’s certainly not a necessity. We appreciate the range of skills and variety of experience you may bring from other industry sectors. It’s what you contribute as a person that’s important, not where you worked previously.
How does working in a partnership structure differ from other organisational structures?
Due to our size, our structure is probably more like a traditional partnership structure than exists at the Big 4 firms. It can sometimes feel like you have 10 bosses and whilst this may be confusing at times, it also means that you gain lots of contact with the most experienced people in the firm. We have, however, integrated elements of a corporate structure into our partnership, which means that there is a clearer reporting and management structure than you may find in other firms of our size.
How do I apply?
By completing the online form and attaching your CV to it. Then, assuming that you meet our criteria, we will invite you to attend an initial interview. We may carry out some tests relevant to the position you’re applying for and there will be a final interview with at least one of our partners.
Will Cassons support my training?
Yes, we actively encourage all our staff to continue their training and will provide you with on the job training, tailored courses and a study package to support your professional studies (in the shape of course funding and study leave). We will also assign a mentor to help guide and support you all the way.
We are a recognised Investors in People employer and your personal and professional development are important to us.
We help you broaden your knowledge and ensure you have the relevant IT skills to meet the current and future needs of the business.
What are the opportunities for promotion?
Excellent - many of our partners started with Cassons as trainees. We believe in promotion from within wherever possible and advertise all vacancies internally. Cassons operates as a meritocracy and the opportunities are there for the taking.
How will I know how I’m doing?
All new starters are given a review after 3 months in order to agree a training plan and objectives for the future. You will also have a performance and development review on an annual basis to review your work, plan for the future and a training strategy to get you there. We try to give informal feedback on a regular basis and your mentor will be available to give you all the guidance and support you need.
What kind of social activities do you have?
When work is over, we have a range of social events; football, golf, quiz nights and ten pin bowling to name a few. We want you to enjoy working as part of our team and we host a variety of events throughout the year including a summer ball and Christmas parties.
Is Cassons a good company to work for?
We think so! Our salary structures are competitive and reviewed on a regular basis and our benefits package includes private health care and pension after a qualifying period. We also recognise the need for a healthy balance between work and family life with initiatives such as ‘summertime special’ flexible working.
