Experienced professionals:
Frequently asked questions

Why should I join Cassons?
We’re a thriving, professional firm, constantly growing and developing the range of services we can offer to our clients. We are business advisors in the truest sense and work in partnership with our clients to help them to grow their businesses and their personal finances.

A firm of our size can offer a range and depth of new experiences. We believe that the more you know, the better the advice you’ll give. At Cassons we recognise the contributions that all staff can make to the business; it’s a good place to be and a good team to be part of.

What sort of experience are you looking for?
An ideal candidate will have worked for a medium sized firm preferably in a practice environment rather than in industry. In terms of qualification and level of experience it will really depend on the position you’re applying for. As a rough guideline we would be looking for 3 years post qualification experience at Audit Senior level. We can provide a person specification for specific vacancies to give you a better idea of what we’re looking for.

How will you help me to develop?
We’ll help you develop through a program of formal training, using external courses and internal workshops to keep you up to date technically. We’ll also focus on your personal development and meet any ‘soft skill’ training needs you may have.

We will plan your work with your development in mind, trying to ensure a range of assignments to give you the broadest possible experience base. We also believe in sharing information between departments and use the talents of our staff in internal workshop sessions.

Will Cassons support further training?
Yes, we actively encourage all our staff to continue their training and will provide you with on the job training, tailored courses and where appropriate, a study package to support your continued professional studies (in the shape of course funding and study leave). We will also assign a mentor to help guide and support you all the way. We are a recognised Investors in People employer and your personal and professional development are important to us. We help you broaden your technical knowledge and ensure you have the relevant IT skills to meet the current and future needs of the business.

What are the opportunities for promotion?
Excellent, many of our partners started with Cassons as trainees. We believe in promotion from within wherever possible and advertise all vacancies internally. Cassons operates as a meritocracy and the opportunities are there for the taking.

What sort of clients will I be working with?
Although we act for clients throughout the UK, our client base is concentrated in the North West. Our clients fall into three categories: businesses with a turnover between £2m and £65m, wealthy individuals and professionals (doctors, barristers, dentists, solicitors etc). You can find out more about the services we provide to our clients by clicking here. You can also read some comments from our clients by clicking here.

What level of contact will I have with partners?
You’ll be working closely with a number of partners depending upon your area of speciality and client responsibility. You will have regular contact with all the partners in workshops, socially and around the office on an informal basis.

How will I know how I’m doing?
All new starters are given a review after 3 months in order to agree a training plan and objectives for the future. You will also have a performance and development review on an annual basis to review your work, plan for the future and a training strategy to get you there. We try to give informal feedback on a regular basis and your mentor will be available to give you all the guidance and support you need.

What kind of social activities do you have?
When work is over, we have a range of social events; football, golf, quiz nights and ten pin bowling to name a few. We want you to enjoy working as part of our team and we host a variety of events throughout the year including a summer ball and Christmas parties.

Is Cassons a good company to work for?
We think so! Our salary structures are competitive and reviewed on a regular basis and our benefits package includes private health care and pension after a qualifying period. We also recognise the need for a healthy balance between work and family life with initiatives such as ‘summertime special’ flexible working.

How do I apply?
By printing off the application form, completing and posting it back to our HR Manager, Keith Boothroyd.

Then, assuming that you meet our criteria, we will invite you to attend an initial interview. We may carry out tests depending upon the nature of the position you’re applying for and there will be a final interview with at least one of our partners.
