If you are using your car (or motorbike!) for business, you will be able to claim a tax deduction for the costs incurred. The difficulty lies in determining the actual business costs. You need to work out the proportion of your total costs which relate to your practice and that which is private. The best way of achieving this is to keep a mileage log. But you will need to know whether you should record every trip, be able to recognise what is and isn't considered to be a business trip and whether there is a prescribed HM Revenue & Customs form for the purpose.
