Retirement:
Can I get my contributions back?
The general rule is that you cannot get your contributions back and you do not have access to the funds in the pension scheme until your retirement.
The exceptions to this are:
- You get any contributions made to a policy back if you cancel the policy in the ‘cooling off’ period
- You leave an employer’s pension scheme you have been in for less than two years provided the scheme is either a final salary scheme or a stakeholder scheme
- You get any contributions made to a scheme back if you were not eligible to join that scheme
